Electrofusion Tee
electrofusion tee is a specialized pipe fitting used to create a permanent, leak-proof 90° branch connection in thermoplastic piping systems, most commonly those using High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). It contains embedded electrical resistance wires that, when energized by an electrofusion welding machine, melt the plastic of both the fitting and the pipe to fuse them into a single, monolithic joint.
Common Types of Electrofusion Tees
The choice of tee depends on whether the branching pipe is the same size as the main line or needs to be smaller for flow regulation.
- Equal Tee: Features three ports of the same diameter. It is used for balanced pipeline networks where uniform flow distribution is required across all branches.
- Reducing Tee: Has a smaller-diameter branch port compared to the main run. This allows for a seamless transition between different pipe sizes without needing extra reducer fittings, often used to supply service lines from a main distribution pipe.
- Tapping Tee (Saddle Type): A specialized fitting designed to create a branch on a live pipeline without interrupting the flow. It includes an integrated cutter to bore a hole into the main pipe after the saddle is fused.
